ADVANCED MUSICAL THEATRE - BERNSTEIN
FUSE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL 2025In 2025 our Advanced Bernstein class were chosen to perform in the Fuse International Festival in Kingston. The group had been working on a brand new play written especially for them by our artistic director, Emma Louise Tinniswood, called Somewhen.
This was a fantastic opportunity to perform in an international festival and in another performing arts venue. |
Our Advanced Musical Theatre class is a performing arts programme which is designed for students of all abilities who wish to develop their skills in Acting, Dance and Singing at a higher, fast paced level. Many of the students are hoping to pursue careers in the performing arts, or are taking GCSE and A Level Theatre Studies. Some are working professionally and others are part of national choirs such as the National Youth Choir and The Royal Opera House Young Company.
Our classes are fast paced and high energy and students work with industry professionals to develop their skills in a nurturing environment. We set and expect high standards and work to ensure students reach their full potential. Whether you’re aiming for a career in the industry or simply want to perform as a hobby, this class provides the perfect space to develop your skills, build confidence, and unleash your creativity. The class is designed for 11-6 years and each 3 hour session includes Singing & Musicianship, Acting and Dance. We are passionate about the benefits of the performing arts and we keep class sizes small and energy high to help bring out the best in every young performer, giving them the chance to develop their skills, interests and creativity in a fun and friendly learning environment. We encourage self-expression and help develop self confidence. Not everyone will become a professional performer but the arts build life skills which are life long. Each week students have sessions in Acting, Singing & Musicianship and Dance. These dynamic and high energy workshops explore all aspects of theatre and performance which they can then apply to exam work or performance. Throughout the year the students have a wide range of performance opportunities to prepare for, meaning they develop a wide range of skills. Throughout the Autumn term the students work on a musical, as well as preparing songs for our annual Christmas Concert. They develop vocal skills and general musicianship which they can apply to all their musical work. They also work on dance technique and different genres of dance including Jazz and Modern. In acting they explore devising, characterisation, vocal and physical skills looking at how to develop detailed characters for performance. We also have guest teachers running extra workshops to extend the students skills in areas such as Stage Combat Playwriting and Choreography. The Spring term is dedicated to rehearsals for their musical as we prepare for a full-scale production on a professional stage, giving students the unforgettable experience of performing in front of a live audience. During the Summer term, classes shift to workshops and developmental work. They often work on a play this term as well as music for an annual Music Concert. Over the term, students will develop confidence, creativity, and technique exploring the full spectrum of theatre: acting technique, scene and text work, devising, musical theatre, ensemble skills, and creative collaboration. They also have the opportunity to work towards TRINITY Speech and Drama exams, and perform in Drama and Music Festivals. Previous productions have included Fame, Sister Act, The Adams Family, Little Shop of Horrors and plays including Millie's Dream, Sing Little Cuckoo, Somewhen |
